Reduce TSS and Minimize Surcharges

Food and beverage processing plants generate a significant amount of wastewater with relatively high concentrations of total suspended solids (TSS). It is imperative to treat this wastewater before sending it on to a municipal sewage system to limit municipal surcharges imposed for exceeding the limits on TSS.

Proper screening of the waste stream can also increase discharge dryness resulting in lower hauling and waste disposal costs.

Rotary drum screens are an effective and efficient method to remove organic waste from food and beverage wastewater. Screening out of organic matter can substantially reduce the TSS levels in the waste stream and enhance further food and beverage wastewater treatment processes.

IPEC drum screens use a wedge wire screen designed for specific waste to optimize cleaning and minimize wash water use. The headbox dissipates energy flow to optimize liquid removal and maximize throughput. The higher throughput allows a smaller IPEC screen to do the same job as many larger screens on the market. IPEC rotary drum screens are known for their rugged construction, reliable performance and minimum maintenance in tough industrial wastewater ap­plications. JWC works with customers to specify the right drum screen based on the debris composition, flow rate, and end-use for the screenings.

Screening to Maximize Anaerobic Digestion for Breweries

Brewing beer is particularly water-intensive and most of it ends up as wastewater. The waste enzymes that result from beer brewing can cause considerable disruption to the sewer system. As a result, many municipalities have strict limits before releasing wastewater to the municipality. Some forward-thinking breweries have chosen anaerobic digestion to combat these waste disposal issues. However, for optimal anaerobic digestion and to protect sensitive equipment in the process, it is critical to pretreat the wastewater to remove coarse solids, like hops and spent grains. IPEC internally fed rotary drum screens from JWC Environmental are a cost-effective and reliable pretreatment solution to remove suspended solids from wastewater streams prior to reaching the anaerobic digester.

Internally Fed Rotary Drum Screens

JWC Environmental offers three IPEC internally fed drum screens for solids recovery from industrial wastewater applications. All models are constructed with 304 stainless steel to ensure longevity, are customized to meet your specific needs, and can include optional features like internal spray bars and variable frequency drives. Versatile and flexible, the 3-HYDRO In-line grinder is perfect for many operations, including meat processing, recycling plants, and petroleum processing. The 4-HYDRO is our most powerful In-line model. It features a 10-HP motor and dual-shafted grinders that can easily cut through rocks, wood, animal waste, plant waste, and other debris. This grinder can also come with Wipes Ready® Cutter Technology to better handle fibrous materials like rags and wipes. It can fit into pipelines up to 20 inches in diameter and handle flow rates up to 6,860 GPM.

Sidehill Screens

Our SHS and SHP sidehill screens are designed for static dewatering applications. The SHS model comes in a range of widths, spanning from 12 to 120 inches, and can manage flow rates as high as 2,000 GPM. The SHP screen is offered in 24, 48, and 72-inch lengths with a capacity to handle flows reaching up to 600 GPM, depending on its specific use.

3-SHRED 3-SHRED-2

The 3-SHRED and 3-SHRED-2 are ideal units for small-to-medium waste processing applications. The 3-SHRED comes with a standard 5-HP motor and has a throughput capacity of up to 131 ft3/hr, while the more powerful 3-SHRED-2 comes with a standard 10-HP motor and can process up to 141 ft3/hr of waste. Both grinders can easily shred rocks, wood, clothing, and other tough debris, have integrated steel scrapers, and can come with optional food-grade nickel-plated housing, stainless steel cutting chamber components, and custom hoppers or stands.

4-SHRED-2

Cut bigger problems down to size with the 4-SHRED-2. Like all models in the SHRED series, the 4-SHRED-2 has dual-shafted, slow-speed, high-torque shredders, customizable cutters, and integrated steel scrapers. It can also come with optional food-grade nickel-plated housing, stainless steel cutting chamber components, and custom hoppers or stands. This shredder can be configured with a 15-, 25-, or 40-HP motor and can process up to 393 ft3/hr of waste.
