Here’s a great video from Videotel Productions explaining the new rules for the management of garbage and food waste onboard ships and oil platforms. From the description “Garbage Management — Marpol Annex V (Edition 2) provides training in how to comply with the revised MARPOL Annex V regulations as regards garbage collection, processing, storage, disposal and record-keeping using the Garbage Record Book.” The JWC MARPOL shredder which is ABS certified can be used on any ocean-going vessel to ensure compliance with MARPOL Annex V.
JWC’s SHRED grinders have been rigorously tested and approved for use as a proper food waste grinder and disposal method for ships and oil platforms at sea. Our dual shafted slow torque electric grinders can be used inside or outside on a ship to ensure food waste meets MARPOL Annex V disposal requirements. No matter what food waste on a ship needs to be disposed of the JWC MARPOL shredder can grind it to meet the 1/2″ particle size requirement.
Monster Industrial MARPOL Wet and Dry Food Grinder Makes It Easy to Comply With MARPOL Annex V Regulations
The Massachusetts Maritime Academy near Cape Code recently purchased a 3-HYDRO, a MARPOL wet and dry food grinder to install on one of their training vessels. The grinder turns food waste, including tough-to-grind items such as steak and rib bones, into small 1” (25mm) or smaller particles. Food waste ground smaller than 1″ (25mm) can be discharged overboard in compliance with international MARPOL Annex V regulations. This Monster Industrial wet and dry food grinder has also been certified by the American Bureau of Shipping allowing it for use on any ocean-going vessel!
The USTS Kennedy is owned by the U.S. Maritime Administration and is used as a training vessel by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. It is the type of ship the U.S. Government is outfitting with Monster Industrial HYDRO wet and dry food grinders to comply with MARPOL regulations.
American Bureau of Shipping Certification for the Monster Industrial HYDRO MARPOL Grinders
JWC Environmental continues to bring customers the best technologies in the waste shredder industry. We have again attained a certification of approval for our legendary Monster waste grinder. This time the nod of approval comes from ABS, the American Bureau of Shipping. Our MARPOL grinders (also known as the HYDRO series) are perfect for meeting MARPOL Annex V food waste disposal requirements for at sea vessels or to protect ship sewage systems from clogs.
The certificate of design assessment(PDF)allows for any Monster waste grinder to be used in any ocean-going vessel as a waste grinder. This Type Approval is granted only after a manufacturer undergoes a Product Design Assessment (PDA) review through the American Bureau of Shipping Engineering.
“JWCE is the only producer of twin shafted grinders to obtain this certification. Having this will open inroads into the maritime market-place,” said Randy Ullon, Inside Technical Sales-person for JWCE.
