Muffin Monster Tackles Confiscated Items at JFK Airport

| | Industrial Processing News

New York’s JFK airport is the United State’s largest international portal of entry by passenger volume. According to Business Insider, about 43,000 international travelers pass through each day, with bags in tow.

The screening process for international travelers confiscates approximately 120 pounds of food per day that could potentially threaten US agriculture with foreign pests. Among the confiscated items, officials also screen out drugs and weapons using K9’s who are highly specialized to sniff out food and illegal items.

When items are seized, they are sent to be incinerated in a location that is top secret. This is where the food that is confiscated meets its match – the Muffin Monster. At JFK, the Muffin Monster tackles approx. 120 pounds of food each day from international travelers. These items include avocados, mangos and citrus which are the most commonly seen fruits travelers are trying to bring in.
