Read how Shanghai urban construction officials, Ivy Canada and JWC Environmental worked together to design an underground pumping station to protect the Suzhou River from the effects of the the growing community surrounding it.

Wastewater and stormwater is collected from the region and sent to a wastewater treatment plant for purification. And a new, beautiful park for residents was built right on top. Monster grinders protect the pumps, the river is protected from pollution and the residents don’t even know two massive Macho Monsters are lurking right under their feet, quietly chewing up sewer clogging debris everyday! Earlier this year JWC passed another major milestone – manufacturing Muffin Monster grinder number 25,000. The dual-shafted Muffin Monster has become the industry standard for solids reduction in wastewater and sludge. The proof is in the incredible number of Muffin Monsters purchased by customers and out there grinding away on debris to keep sewer and sludge pumps free flowing and clear!

“We’re proud of this milestone, and I know as a team even more achievements are ahead of us,” said Woodie Chambers, JWC’s Chairman of the Board. “In 1973 my father Joe developed the Muffin Monster grinder and I’m proud of the leading edge technologies we continue to develop for grinding, screening, washing and receiving.” (more…)

Green Muffin Monsters Devour Airport Blue Water!

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Installation of the Aircraft Waste Disposal Facility was Stage 2 of the Sydney Airport Water Recycling Project.

As part of Sydney International Airport’s Redevelopment, JWC distributor ITT Flygt Australia, was contracted by the airport to install a clean, efficient way to reduce and dispose of  ‘blue water’ – wastewater pumped from airplane lavatories. Airplane lavatories are constantly subjected to a broad variety of ‘non-disposable’ items that ultimately clog downstream sewer lines, pumps and processes.

The new Aircraft Waste Disposal Facility, houses two Muffin Monster channel grinders in a below-ground well, allowing lavatory carts to drive up and unload the blue water from the airplane. Wet and dry solids flow via an inlet pipe into the station’s dual-shafted grinders, which use two shafts of sharp steel rotating cutters to chop up solids like plastic, textiles, foreign object debris (FOD) and paper. Ground up material is then flushed into the local sewer system and the tiny pieces pose no threat to downstream pumps.

Equipped with immersible motors, these Monsters are protected from stormwater run-off and increased flow rates during heavier traffic seasons.

With over 33 million passengers using Sydney Airport in 2008, much of the waste being disposed is pumped directly from the airplane lavatories. The installation of the Muffin Monster Model 30005s in 2008 was an important step in their waste management strategy.

The rugged design of the grinders has eliminated most of the clogging downstream, saving maintenance costs and time. By minimizing waste solids, Sydney Airport has been successful in reducing their overall costs and impact on the environment.

JWC also offers another solution for airport waste mangement with the Monster Airport Receiving Station – a self-contained, below grade and automated station that allows for simple, odor-free, clean and efficient wastewater disposal.

New, Larger Channel Monster XD3.0s Go Into Service at Two Pump Stations

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

These are the largest wastewater grinders in the world. Several Channel Monster XD3.0s are going into operation at pump stations around the world and we have proof these massive Monsters really do exist!  These mammoth Monsters can swallow up to 59 million gallons per day (9300 m3/h) thanks to two rotating screening drums and love to dine on a wide range of trash, rags, debris and other solid objects before they have a chance to clog a pump.

The new XD3.0 delivers massive force with two rows of sharp steel cutters to slice through rags and plastics and cut them down to a size pumps and pipelines can easily handle. The submersible 15 hp (11 kW) motor delivers over 11,000 lbs. of force (50 kN) at peak loads to power through the toughest slugs of trash and debris. No more ragging pumps with a Channel Monster on duty!

Here are the amazing specs of the Channel Monster XD3.0:

  • Up to 59-MGD (9300 m3/h)
  • 13′ (4m) tall
  • Weighing in at 12,000 lbs (5400 kg)
  • 15 hp (11 kW) grinder motor – screening drums are independent 1 hp (0.75 kW) motors
  • 3″ (76mm) hex drive shafts
  • High-flow screening drums with  1/2″ (12mm) diameter stainless steel rod

Check out a real, live Channel Monster XD3.0 at WEFTEC.09 booth 1831!

While most know the Muffin Monster as a powerful sewage grinder, chewing and grinding its way through tough wastewater solids. Yet for these 14 guys, THEY were the ‘Muffin Monsters’, hitting and running their way around the bases in the Coachella Valley Water District’s (CVWD) Annual Softball Tournament.

The CVWD, with over 500 employees, serves the water and wastewater needs of the Palm Springs area, utilizing several different Monsters and was a demonstration site for the Screenings Washer Monster.

This team of Mechanical Technicians and Engineers sported Muffin Monster T-shirts (compliments Tom Roberson of MISCO Water) and competed against 11 other teams in last year’s tournament.

Even though these were tough ‘monsters’, as John Villareal of the CVWD said, “Unfortunately we didn’t place however we did have fun.”

We hear they’re already planning their strategy for next year’s tournament!

…the 2009 JWC Rep Council!

Dwight Craig, Misco Pacific (California); Randy Hamlett, Hamlett Environmental (Michigan); Woodie Chambers; Craig Justice, Heyward (Georgia); Tim Miller, Electric Pump (Minnesota); Greg Jager, G.P. Jager (New Jersey); Bob Russell, Hartwell (Texas).

Every year we invite six reps to spend a week with us discussing the market, what JWC does well, what we don’t do well and what products or improvements the market needs. These discussions help guide our strategic planning for the upcoming year.

This year’s week of discussions was especially helpful in reviewing the government’s implementation of the economic stimulus package and reviewing JWC’s positioning during the planning of current and proposed ARRA funded projects.

So, to the gentlemen of this year’s JWC Rep Council – You ARE the Top Monsters!
